STORY:

For the next five days, London's Empire cinema will see fans of the horror movie genre flock to watch a host of films, as the UK's Frightfest gets underway with Paul Hyett's directorial debut "The Seasoning House" as the festival's opener.

Now in its thirteenth year, the festival, which first launched in 2000, has proved a launch pad for filmmakers' careers, some of whom have gone on to direct major blockbusters.

Sean Pertwee along with actress Rosie Day lead "The Seasoning House" cast, telling the story of an orphaned deaf mute girl, Angel, played by Day, who is kidnapped by soldiers and forced to care for young girls who are prostituted to both the military and civilians. However Angel's ability to move between the walls of the seasoning house eventually helps her to escape her tormentors and ultimately seek revenge.

Other films set to screen over the next couple of days include works by Jennifer Lynch ("Chained"), Matthias Hoene ("Cockneys Vs Zombies") and Patricio Valladares ("Hidden In The Woods").

Frightfest runs from August 23 to 27.
