Rory McIlroy Discusses Being World Number One

    by NTDTelevision

Fresh from his outstanding victory in the U.S. PGA Championship, and looking forward to the hotly anticipated Ryder Cup, golf champion Rory McIlroy talks about being world number one.

For Rory McIlroy, being world number one is still sinking in.

Whilst most people were busy watching the London Olympics, McIlroy was quietly going about his business, winning the U.S. PGA Championship by an astonishing eight shots.

Add to that his previous victory at the 2011 U.S. Open by the same emphatic margin, and it is clear why the 23-year-old Irishman is seen as golf's most exciting young talent.

[Rory McIlroy, Pro Golf Player, Two-Time Major Winner]:
"Just very happy, very happy with how I played, very happy that I obviously won the tournament and my second major. You know, the number one ranking wasn't really on my radar, as such, it was, you know, I just wanted to win last week and I was able to do that, so it's nice to be in the position that I'm in and you know, hopefully I can keep it for a while longer."

With the highly anticipated Ryder Cup just around the corner, McIlroy is delighted to be paired with his childhood hero Tiger Woods.

[Rory McIlroy, Pro Golf Player, Two-Time Major Winner]:
"Yeah I'm looking forward to it, you know. Tiger was a huge hero of mine when I was growing up and you know, for us to be paired this week at the Barclays is going to be great fun for the first two days. I think it will create quite a bit of excitement and you know, looking forward to it. I think every, anytime that I play with Tiger, or anytime Tiger plays with anyone, he sort of brings the best in people, so you know I'll really be trying my best to beat him those first couple of days."

But it will be a tough challenge for Europe to retain the Ryder Cup against a strong United States team playing in their own backyard.
