The Democratic Republic of Congo's military is facing questions about its ability to control and protect civilians in the eastern areas where it has made recent gains against former Congolese soldiers.

The army, itself comprised of fighters from former rebel groups, has come under fire from rights groups for terrorising the Congolese people.

Congolese refugees in neighbouring Rwanda have said the poorly paid and equipped soldiers present as much of a threat as the rebel forces.

Al Jazeera's Nazanine Moshiri reports from Jomba, DRC.
