In a bid to tackle a disease that kills about eight million people a year, an international project has been launched to map the DNA of more than 18,000 cancer tumours.

Thirty-nine facilities around the world will work together to better understand the genetic changes that take place in cancer cells.
Using state of the art DNA sequencing, researchers say creating a catalogue of the genomic mutations will accelerate research into the causes and control of control of cancer.
