Germany's marking the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin wall. Ceremonies in the capital started with a memorial service and a minute's silence to honour those who died trying to flee from communist controlled East Germany to the West. The wall spread for nearly 160 kilometers dividing the city for over 28 years. At least 136 people are known to have been killed trying to cross the Wall, however the exact number is still disputed.
