Arnold Schwarzenegger and some of Hollywood's other elder statesmen of action movies hit the red carpet in London on Monday (13 August) for the UK premiere of 'The Expendables 2'.

Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Lundgren and Van Damme star, the latter cast as the villain.

    [Jean-Claude Van Damme, Actor]:
"If the acting is good it's going to hurt no matter what. So if I am going to say, "I am going to kill you", you know it's like something, then I am sorry I was acting you know, so to tell that to my idols like Arnold and Stallone, I am talking to Rocky here. my friend you know."

Schwarzenegger admits he and his co-stars were fierce rivals back at the peak of their fame in the 1980s.

    [Arnold Schwarzenegger, Actor]:
"Those are all people I have admired over the years. They have all done great action movies, even though we were very competitive. There was always fierce competition from day one on. Who has the biggest muscles, who has the best action, who uses the biggest guns - but that creates performance so now we have all come together and we are all on the same team."

Jason Stratham is somewhat younger but he's getting his share of attention.

Co-star Dolph Lundgren admitted some of his action sequences had left him feeling a little bit sore.

    [Dolph Lundgren, Actor]:
"It gets more difficult. When you're in there and the adrenaline is pumping you don't really care but it's like afterwards at night or the next morning you're like 'oh man! did I do that?."

How do these larger than life characters sort out the pecking order behind the scenes?

    [Dolph Lundgren, Actor]:
"Arnold wants it. He says, 'I want the weapon. Something large, how about yours?'"

The Expendables 2' will be released in the UK on August 16.
