STORY: Buenos Aires fashion week opened with a splash as Argentine fashion designers brought street culture and urban artists to their inspired collections for the Spring/Summer 2012-13 BAFWEEK which kicked off Tuesday (August 7) night.

The latest collection by designer Mariana Cortes for the Juana de Arco label brought nature and urban art together by combining prints, bright colors and varying textures for a unique look topped off with headbands infused with urban visors.

Cortes told Reuters she looked to graffiti artists and other aspects of street culture for inspiration in her spring-summer collection.

One of the highlights of Tuesday night's show, which featured collections from staple Argentine labels like Chocolate, Wanama and children's fashions from Cheeky, came with the use of recycled fabrics from the 12-na brand.

Designer Mariano Braccia said the edgy line reused fabrics to create a new unique look which kept close to the street fashion theme.

The line, which targets socially and environmentally conscious consumers, did not disappoint as models hit the runway wearing combined textures and patterns from head to toe.

Audience members joined the fun wearing 12-na masks as they took in the distinctive look.

BAFWEEK runs through Friday (August 10) and will also feature campaigns from Mariana Dappiano, Luna Portnoi, Pum Pum, Consuelo Vidal among others at Buenos Aires' La Rural convention center in the trendy Palermo district.
