Russian Spy Ring Planned to Recruit Children - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

A Russian spy ring that was taken down by the federal government in 2010 apparently had plans to recruit their own children within the ring as secret agents for “mother Russia.” The ring was comprised of at least ten Russians who were in the United States illegally under assumed identities evidently for the purpose of spying on the US economic, military, and political system. According to recorded surveillance, one couple revealed their position as Russian spies to their son, who also agreed to become a spy. Another one of the secret agents, with the assumed name of Anna Chapman, garnered media attention because of her good looks, and has even gone on television, appeared in magazines and worked as a fashion model.

All of the accused spies pled guilty to being secret agents for Russia and were eventually taken to Vienna, Austria and traded for four men who had supposedly been imprisoned for spying on Russia.
Many details of the investigation are not available to the public, but according to the Wall Street journal the long term mission may have wanted the children to “act as go-betweens for other operatives who might have been more closely monitored by U.S. counterintelligence.”
