Syrian forces take on rebels in Aleppo

Fighting rages on in the streets of Aleppo.

On Monday, Syrian troops said they had recaptured a rebel-held district in the commercial hub.

But these latest battles have seen President Bashar al-Assad's forces hard pressed to keep control in Syria's major cities as rebel forces gained momentum.

Amateur footage that cannot be independently verified shows fierce fighting in the streets on Sunday.

Across the border, neighbour Turkey beefed up security amid escalting violence.

On Monday convoys of trucks and amoured vehicles made their way to Kilis province.

Turkey's government, once a staunch Syria supporter, is calling for Assad to step down to end the violence that has seen thousands die and many more flee the country.
