    RMS Research : Interview of Jennifer Smith

    The Wine Research Centre was delighted to welcome, from 11 June to 12 July, Dr Jennifer SMITH MAGUIRE, doctor in sociology and lecturer in the Media & Communication Department of the University of Leicester, as part of the Champagne-Ardenne region’s policy of “Support for International Scientific Cooperation – Visiting Researcher Expertise.”
    Her research interests lie in the fields of: cultural intermediaries and the affective dimensions of markets, cultural economy and the construction of value, qualification processes and provenance as value in the premium wine market, individualization, governmentality and consumer fitness culture identity and self-production and consumption by different actors (producers, consumers, sites, communication tools). She is the author of various publications, including a recent book: “The Cultural Intermediaries Reader”, published by Sage, and articles in journals such as Marketing Theory, Sociology Compass, International Journal of Cultural Studies etc.
    During her stay, Jennifer carried out research into sustainable development in Champagne winegrowing; she examined producer and consumer perceptions of natural champagne production and possible applications for sustainable development in Champagne.
