Syrian troops blamed for civilian deaths

A damaged car sits by the side of the road in the Syrian town of al Jinah.

Amateur video obtained by Reuters appeared to show the aftermath of fighting in Aleppo province.

Residents said three people were killed and another wounded when the car was hit by a mortar shell.

Opposition activists say government troops and rebels have fought fierce battles in the area.

One unnamed resident accused troops of firing on the town indiscriminately.

SOUNDBITE: UNNAMED TOWN RESIDENT SAYING (Arabic):

"Two brothers and their uncle were killed, another uncle is between life and death. What is the fault of this village to be hit with these shells? Ten shells on a daily basis and this village does not have any sign of armed groups? (We are targeted) only because we called for freedom."

Syria has sent thousands of troops towards Aleppo.

They hope to put down the 16-month-old revolt which has intensified in recent days.
