Will the final Batman installment live up to the first two? Well, my dear movie fans, that depends on who you ask.
...Just kidding! Critics are loving the crap out of 'The Dark Knight Rises'! With a 94% certified fresh rating on RottenTomatoes so far, Chris Nolan's third and final journey into Gotham is on track to far surpass critic reception of 'Batman Begins' and match that of its predecessor, 'The Dark Knight.'
Empire Magazine's Nev Pierce found 'Dark Knight Rises' "a satisfying conclusion to what is now -- we're calling it -- the best superhero series of all time." That's high praise for the trilogy, Nev, but how does the new movie stack up? Top critic Todd McCarthy of the Hollywood Reporter called it "the best of Nolan's trio" and an example of "Big-time Hollywood filmmaking at its most massively accomplished" -- that's more like it! But what sets 'Rises' apart from the first two films? Critics across the board are praising the film's powerful commitment to emotion and suspense. McCarthy warns, "One knows going in that this film will mark the end of Batman...but for the first time there is the sense that it could also really be the end for Batman." Yikes, sounds like this one's gonna be a nail-biter!
Minor criticisms cite an overcomplicated plot and a bit of sagging toward the middle of the film's two hour and forty-five minute run-time, but overall response has been overwhelmingly positive. And what of the one, lonely negative review? Marshall Fine, writing independently for his own website, claimed the action scenes are "massively and thunderously clunky" and compared the film to the 'Transformers' franchise. I think the fans may have a thing or two to say about that, so feel free to sound off in the comments, and we'll see you all at midnight on Thursday! I'm Dana Ward, thanks for watching ClevverMovies!
