This videos shows how important it is for the rider to measure the distances in prior to the jump in order to be able to control the horse's strides for the actual jumps. Learn what is requested of the rider and what it means to train the eyes. ReitTV.com explains the meter stride system and how to use it. There are different types of distances, for example distances with 5 or 6 canter strides. When trying to find the ideal take-off for the jumps, the rider has to decide whether to increase the pace and therefore increase the lenght of the horse's strides, resulting in less strides between obstacles, or hold back the horse and ride an additional stride. The rider should particularly concentrate on finding a good take-off point, which is relatively easy when riding in a rhythmical canter.
