Feng Jianmei was forced to undergo an abortion in June. Now, her husband, Deng Jiyuan is seeking government compensation and criminal prosecution of local Chinese officials.
Feng was forced to have an abortion in the seventh month of her pregnancy by the local authorities because her family could not afford the fine for violating China's one-child policy.
The abortion generated an uproar in China after photographs of Feng and the aborted child were released over the Internet.
After the outcry, the family was offered some living expenses but was not given any specific compensation.
According to the Associated Press, the family was placed under temporary surveillance last month but Deng managed to escape to Beijing to seek legal help.
Zhang Kai, Deng’s lawyer, said Deng is requesting for local police and prosecutors to scrutinize criminal violations in the case. Feng has been hospitalized since the abortion due to health complications.
