'It's a tip of the hat to Bicycle Thieves'
With The Golden Compass and Twilight: New Moon behind him, you might expect Chris Weitz to be making epic, CGI-heavy blockbusters chocked to the gills with talking polar bears and angsty teens. Instead the anglophile director has made the much more personal, intimate A Better Life. But then, as Weitz explained, he "likes his burgers with some nice fresh lettuce". We panicked that we'd come to the interview unprepared but thankfully it turned out to be a metaphor, although his powerful, affecting new film is anything but 'lettuce'.
