In the 80's, Strawberry Shortcake is a licensed character used originally in greeting cards. It is owned by an American Greetings Card Company that specializes on both greeting cards and toys. Strawberry Shortcake became a hit in the mid 1980's that the company expanded its product line. They included dolls as well as posters of Strawberry Shortcake along with her friends and pets.
The first design of Strawberry Shortcake and her cat Custard was done in 1977 by a greeting card illustrator Muriel Fahrion. Muriel also designed 32 more characters with artists Cindy Mayer Patton and Janet Jones to complete the Strawberry Shortcake line of characters.
