Garlic Thieves Captured in Austria - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

How far would you go to get your hands on garlic?

Austrian police had their hands and nostrils full when they stopped thieves who had obtained over 9 tons of stolen garlic valued at nearly $38,000. Law enforcement caught three drooping and overfilled vehicles attempting to depart Austria and enter into Hungary. An officer claimed it was rather obvious what the massive amounts of cargo inside the vans were, noting that, ‘All three vehicles really stunk like garlic’. The five Romanian men were arrested and charged with ‘suspicion of receiving stolen goods’.

In a similar incident, a Florida man was charged with multiple felonies after stealing onions from a local farm. He stole $250 worth of crops, damaged surrounding vegetables then took off in his vehicle claiming to drive towards the farm owner. In another story, a Connecticut man working in a chicken suit was robbed of the American flag he was waving after a man got out of a vehicle and stole it from the victim’s hand. Even the call dispatchers couldn’t contain their giggles as they relayed the call over to police.
