Thousands of people from the ultra-Orthodox community gathered in
Jerusalem's Mea She'arim neighborhood in the early hours of Monday
morning to protest against plans to draft haredim into national
service and the IDF. The protest was called in light of the coming
proposals of the Keshev Committee which has been tasked with
formulating a new law for the recruitment of haredim. Leading rabbis
of the anti-Zionist Eda Haredit organization led the impassioned
prayers of their followers who were donned in sackcloth.
