Salafist militants seize Italian activist in Gaza

An Italian aid worker has been kidnapped by a Salafist militants in Gaza. Vittorio Arrigoni is an activist for the International Solidarity Movement, a pro-Palestinian group. The kidnappers call themselves 'The Brigade of the Gallant Companion of the Prophet Mohammed bin Muslima.' No group has previoulsy operated under that name. The hostage takers plan to execute Arrigoni by 1600 CET on Friday unless an unspecified number of their members are freed by Hamas officials in Gaza. Salafist groups strictly interpret the Koran and want to create an Islamic State governed by Sharia law. There are five Salafist groups in Gaza, all sworn opponents of Hamas.
