Finland's vote might affect Portugal's bailout

Finland's voters have been choosing a new government and the pre-election opinion polls suggest it might be much less enthusiastic about the EU than the last one. It is even possible the result in Finland could affect Portugal's request for an EU financial bailout. The pro-European National Coalition Party is favourite to have most support when the official results are announced. It is led by the finance minister Jyrki Katainen. But even if it lives up to its pre-poll predictions it will still need coalition partners. The research said the Centre Party of the prime minister Mari Kiviniemi slipped in popularity compared to last time, though it is neck and neck with the Social Democrats which opposes bailing out other EU countries. But it is the anti-immigration and anti-EU True Finns party which has made surging advances in the opinion polls. It too opposes Portugal's bailout and if it makes the gains expected it could be in a position to force a parliamentary vote, holding up the rescu
