STORY: Queen Elizabeth made a suitable entrance on a horse-drawn carriage for day one of at the Royal Ascot horse races in England on Tuesday (June 19).

Accompanied by her husband Prince Philip, son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles, the Queen was dressed in a light blue outfit and hat, conforming to the new strict dress code standards being enforced this year by the Royal Ascot.

The new code for the Royal Enclosure says women's hats must be a headpiece with a base of four inches or more, ruling out popular pieces known as fascinators which are attached with a clip to the hair.

Knee length dresses or below are also required, as are a top hat, waistcoat and tie for the men.

A team of dress code assistants were on standby in the event of a fashion mishap, with hats, pashminas, waistcoats and ties on hand, but most people were sticking to the new restrictions.
