George Papandreou, Greece's embattled prime minister, has won a crucial confidence vote in parliament, and is promising to begin negotiations to form a national unity government.

The vote means that Greece is now likely to ratify sweeping budget cuts being demanded by the IMF and EU.

However, the country's political crisis is not yet over - with the opposition calling for immediate elections.
