Felipe Calderon, Mexico's president, has vowed not to back down in his war on drug gangs, in the face of spiralling violence - that his security forces appear powerless to stop.

In the latest developments, 14 bodies have been found in different locations across the resort town of Acapulco.

Elsewhere in the north a police officer investigating the mass killings of 72 migrants was found dead, and a senior prosecutor on the case also went missing.

In Tamaulipas state, the scene of that massacre, several car bombs exploded.
