Hosni Mubarak, the president of Egypt, has attended a graduation ceremony to congratulate a new batch of trained officers from the country's prestigious Military Academy, his alma matar and the oldest in North Africa.

While a degree from the academy can promise job security in a country grappling with poverty, many of the graduates from the class of 2010 have bigger aspirations. They want to avoid becoming just one of hundreds of thousands of soldiers already employed in the military.
