    German town's euro alternative

    Germany was one of the first countries in Europe to endorse a common currency for much of the continent, but recent debt troubles in Greece, Spain and Portugal have weakened the euro.

    Now Europe's biggest economy is bracing for its own spending cuts, prompting some German towns to find their own symbolic alternatives to the euro.

    Al Jazeera's Stephen Cole reports from the town of Witzenhausen.
