Madrid, 15 May (EFE).- Spanish riot police began clearing Madrid's central Puerta del Sol square of "indignados" (the indignant ones) protesters before daybreak on Tuesday, but hours later indignados and sympathizers of the so-called 15M social movement had filled the square on the last day of a four-day assembly marking its one-year anniversary.
Protesters did not have permission from City Hall to camp out in the square, so police arriving in some 40 vans arrived at around 4:15 to remove them. Seven people were arrested, and two policemen and an indignado were slightly injured in separate scuffles, officials said.
