For the past four years the Antagonist Art Movement has been working on a project, the Dolls of Lisbon, that helps support a global community of artists. Currently the group is in the final stages of completing an 84 minute film about this particular project. Documenting these events on film has proven to be a vital component in highlighting unknown artists who are typically overlooked. With your help we can complete this film and put it on DVD.
About the group:
The members of The Antagonist Art Movement are a network of artists, musicians, and writers that have come together to celebrate each other's talents and to provoke one another's creative potential. Each week new artists gather together to exhibit at a different venue in New York City. Every Thursday the group puts on salon style shows in the East Village, as well as monthly writers night shows, Tuesday public access showing on Channel 67 (Manhattan), and Monday night musicians night. Upon its inception in 2000, the group has grown exponentially, exhibiting more than 3,000 artists. Within the past five years alone, it has travelled to places such as Berlin, Germany and Providence, Rhode Island. We believe in the notion that everyone has the right to show their work without bias or limitation, for most artists this is their first showing of their work.
About the film:
Channeling the Mexican Zapatista movement, The Dolls of Lisbon is New York City's Antagonist Art Movement's latest calling. Featuring artists from The United States, Ecuador, Portugal, and fellow Antagonist Artists in Europe. This documentary focuses on the labors of the artist, begging the question: If you knew being an artist would be this much of a struggle, would you still have taken this path?
In addition, the film also includes a unique soundtrack of underground musicians, and an innovative use of Super 8mm film and stop motion animation.
