Woman Gets Burns From Rocks in Her Pocket - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

We consider rocks to be pretty harmless in general but for a California woman, that wasn't the case.

According to the Orange County Register, she is in the hospital after rocks she had collected at the beach burst into flames while in her pocket.

Los Angeles Times notes that upon returning home from a day at the beach with a few rocks her children had collected in her pocket, the woman’s shorts caught fire.

The rocks fell on the floor and continued to burn, damaging the couple’s home and leaving the woman with severe second and third degree burns.

The rocks have been sent in for research testing to find out what caused them to spontaneously catch fire.

There are other situations elsewhere which remind us of the ever changing conditions even if they are not visibly apparent.

In a place known as the Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, rocks have been known to move across the desert floor on their own, leaving unmistakable trails of their movement behind them. Although no one has ever seen the rocks move and there are only theories at the moment.
