MF Hussain, one of the world's most celebrated artists has died at the age of 95 in a London hospital far away from his country of origin, India.

Called the Picasso of India by the art world, Hussain's career spanned more than 40 years and helped put Indian art on the map.

He produced countless paintings, but in his later years he angered the religious right in India by depicting Hindu goddesses in the nude.

The controversy finally forced him to live in a self-imposed exile since 2006. He later accepted citizenship of Qatar.

Al Jazeera's Bhanu Bhatnagar reports.
