Kamla Persad Bis-sessar, the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, has said police uncovered a plot to assassinate her and members of her government.

She said the plan was a response to her government's crackdown on criminal groups on the Caribbean island.

Trinidad and Tobago has been under a state of emergency since August to counter a crime wave driven by drug traffickers.
