The Hiuen Tsang Memorial Hall is believed to be built to commemorate Hiuen Tsang, the great Chinese traveller who visited India in 5th century AD. Attracted by the sheer glory of Nalanda University, he stayed back here for more than a decade, both as a student as well as a teacher. In fact, he gave very precisely vivid and detailed descriptions of the Indian social and political conditions that prevailed at that time. He was the only traveller who actually helped to fetch great fame to Nalanda by exposing its hidden beautiful aspects to the outside world. For this, Hiuen Tsang enjoys a very prestigious and important place in the entire Indian history. The memorial hall that was built in his memory happens to be one of the best tourist attractions of Nalanda. It is a reminder of the artistic and educational grandeur that is found in his writings about the Nalanda University.
