In the last year in Mauritania's capital, Nouakchott, the number of reported sexual assaults has tripled.

But rape convictions in the north-west African country remain rare.

Charity groups say its because judges are poorly educated about sexual violence, and outdated laws make it difficult to bring rapists to justice.
