Al Arabiya reports that the Islamist-dominated Egyptian Parliament is considering a highly controversial law in which a husband would be legally allowed to have sex with his wife after her death. He will have the right to do upto 6 hours after she has passed.
Dubbed the 'farewell intercourse law', the thinking behind this proposal is that the marriage extends beyond this life and both men and women have the right to engage in sex with their spouses after death.
Not surprisingly, it has caused an outrage among the general population, particularly the Egyptian women. The country's National Council for Women has called on the parliament to stop this law from being passed, according to MSN.
A prominent journalist, Jaber al-Qarmouty, notes - “This is very serious. Could the panel that will draft the Egyptian constitution possibly discuss such issues?"
Another proposed law that's been the source for a lot of debate in Egypt is the mandate to lower the marriage age for girls to 14.
