I chose the present version of this lovely song because it is performed brilliantly, yet by one of the obscurest bands of the 1920s. Actually nothing at all is known about them. These great musicians only cut one single disc in 1929, recorded in New York although their name suggests they played at the famous Washington DC hotel. The vocal is credited to a certain Richard Green. Nevertheless, I do not know whether it is just me, but this outstanding vocalist sounds very much like Scrappy Lambert, although obviously it is impossible to obtain definitive confirmation of this fact.

Thanks a lot, Jack, so glad you love the images. You are fully right; the recording was made in New York but it is impossible to determine where this band was actually playing live.

Thank you Genia, I'm thrilled you love the vocal and the delicate orchestration. Great you love the period image of the Wardman. As far as I know the hotel still stands and has even maintained a reasonable deal of its period charm. About the vocalist, I am simply guessing. Fred is badly needed over here, it is an awful pity we never see him around anymore; even the advertisements are all over YT now too, so impossible to avoid them. I would love to see Fred's valuable input on this site...

Thank you Ginny! I agree this a particularly lovely song and I'm so pleased you enjoyed the vintage pictures. We'll probably never know the exact identity of the vocalist.

Great photos of The Wardman Park Hotel, circa 1929. The band may have been visiting NYC and done this recording while there or it could have been just another pseudonym used for commercial purposes. We'll probably never know for certain.

Love the song, love the orchestra, love that big dance hall sound....
The violin is Wonderful. Great photos of the Wardman....I wonder if it is still there.
I don't think it is Scrappy, I am probably wrong. Too bad Fred can't verify.
Millions of Sparkling STARS.
