    Thousands of illegal Haitian migrants are turning to desperate measures to leave the country as it struggles to keep its economy afloat.

    Officials say the perilous journey is part of a criminal trafficking scheme in which many Haitians pay with their lives.

    Yet many of those seeking to migrate say they are not deterred by the risks because they have no choice and no future in Haiti.
