- Today we fished Lake Koocanusa in NW Montana again for Rainbow and Bull Trout. We caught some beauties and had a boat load of fun! It was a little overcast and chilly, but that didn't bother the fish...they were hungry. Lake Koocanusa is about an hour north of Flathead Lake. We used planer boards as is the practice for these top-water feeders. The action remained slow at first as Lake Koocanusa often is. But then things picked up and we had to scramble to fight fish, net fish, and get some video at the same time. Ever try to net a fish while taking a video of netting a fish? Sky, water, sky, water, deck, feet...anything but the fish. With a bit of luck, at least one bit of usable video contained a beautiful Bull Trout.
