Can Microsoft and Nokia compete with Apple and Google in the smartphone market? Windows Phone 7 is, in many ways, impressive. They've done a solid job of creating an operating system that works well. Even with their lackluster numbers on launch, some operating systems need a few update cycles before they take off.
Apple and Google have created a big market for themselves and it could be argued that in order to grab a larger piece of the smartphone pie, they've got to come up with something that is truly innovative.
