It appears NTD's own website is the latest victim of cyber attacks from Beijing.

After recent political scandals in China, the Chinese Internet has gone wild with comments, discussions, and rumors. Now authorities—who previously did nothing—have started to react. Police have made arrests, China's biggest microblog sites have been forced to disable comments, and now NTD's own website has come under attack.

NTD's web manager Huang Wanqing believes Chinese authorities are to blame.

[Huang Wanqing, NTD Website Manager]:
"They directly attacked our domain server. The scope of this attack was huge. NTD's technical staff said that it wasn't a sporadic attack by individuals, and most of the IP addresses were located in Beijing."

It's unknown exactly who orchestrated this attack. But China commentator Wen Zhao believes it could be someone from the CCP's hardliner faction.

[Wen Zhao, China Commentator]:

Zhou Yongkang and Li Changchun are in the hardliner faction that opposes current Chinese leaders Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao. News about recent scandals, starting with the removal of disgraced official Bo Xilai, directly threatens the hardliners.
