10 years Muziekpublique | Dizzy Mandjeku acoustic rumba quartet: 'Bolengo ya la joie'
  • il y a 12 ans
Dizzy Mandjeku (guitar), Nana Akumu (vocals), Baniel Mbambo (vocals) and Malage de Lugendo (vocals and percussion) are all former members of the legendary group 'Tout puissant OK Jazz'. The band used to be directed by François Luambo Makiadi, more commonly known as 'Franco', the master of Congolese rumba. This group from Kinshasa is a standard bearer for the music of the Congo, as well as Africa as a whole. Together, these 4 professional musicians have brought back to life music from Kinshasa in the 1950s. Here they perform 'Bolengo ya la joie' by Lucie Yenga. The title means love in joy, or joy in love. The lyrics speak of the strength of love and the triumph of trust over idle gossip. It is better to be true to yourself than to run away, they sing, a fitting epithet for this remarkable live performance.
