Lakmé Fashion Week 2012: Rocky S/Rohit Bal
  • 12 years ago
Dried branches on the stage and black wrought iron gates flanked the sides, while autumn leaves covered the ramp. The stage was set for a dramatic fashion presentation. Rocky S is known to pioneer many looks and on the final day of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012, Blender's Pride presented the "Rocky Star" collection which was the designer's new Celebrity line.

It was a bold, sexy yet sophisticated look with superb fabrics like georgette, chiffon, satin, silk and net forming a feminine base for Rocky's creativity. With the chandelier as the inspiration for the surface ornamentation, Rocky brought in laser cutwork for net and georgette along with intricate cord work and showers of crystal and kundan embroidery.

The very gothic collection had the models with wildly flowing dishevelled hair defiantly striding with an aggressive walk to loud sombre music. The all western line of creations had varying lengths encrusted with crystals and sequins.

When the curtains fell at this season's Lakme Fashion Week, the master once again proved that being a Rohit Bal isn't an easy task and comes once in a lifetime.

A stunning backdrop and a live orchestra that played western classical music in it; impressive and powerful violin being played live by five through the fashion runway; an excellent lineup of models displaying his creations and finally the showman walking from the head runway towards his models to take the bow... the show can be best described as the best ever finale. Silhouettes were flowing and carried extensive detailing reminiscent of pieces of art. Cutworks, embroidery, cord detailing, zari, resham and crystal embroidery on an array of fabrics, birds, peacocks and geometric motifs and in hues of ivory to darker shades of beige and brown, maroon, wine, cobalt, red, purple.

It wasn't just a finale, it was an experience.
