The Israeli military takes aim at a suspected weapons depot in the Gaza Strip.

Seconds later - the building is reduced to rubble.

The attack capped a weekend of violent clashes between militants and Israeli forces that left at least 17 Palestinians dead.

Among them was this 12-year-old boy.

Medics say he was killed during an airstrike in Northern Gaza.

The bombardment came after militants launched more than 100 rockets into Israel over the weekend - seriously injuring one person.

Meanwhile, prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu congraluted the Israeli army, which reportedly killed two senior militants in airstrikes.

"We have exacted a heavy price from them and still are, and we will continue to act as needed."

The violence has sparked calls for a ceasefire, and Egypt has reportedly agreed to act as a mediator between Israel and the militant group Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip.
