Thousands attend concert of digital pop star

A packed out Tokyo arena, fans flocking to see their idol.

But Hatsune Miku is unlike any other Japanese pop star.

She sings each song without ever missing a beat, and does her dance routine to perfection.

Unlike other chart-topping singers, though, Hatsune is not human.

Japan's latest pop sensation is in fact completely computer-generated.

But for her fans, who paid up to 76 US dollars for a concert ticket, it was money well spent.

SOUNDBITE: 21-year-old Hatsune Miku Fan, Yuya Ofuji, saying, (Japanese):

"It was absolutely amazing, it's like my heart is still racing. I don't think I'll be able to sleep."

SOUNDBITE: 19-year-old Hatsune Miku Fan, Hazuki Koide, saying (Japanese):

"I've liked her for a long time and wasn't able to come to the concert last year and I watched it in a movie theatre. But this year I thought, I absolutely had to make it."

Most popular in Japan, where she's also celebrated charts success, Hatsune's popularity spans into other Asian countries, including China and Taiwan.

As for the 10,000 concert goers, they might be the last ones to have seen the digital star live on stage.

According to event organizers they've advertised the shows in Tokyo as Hatsune Miku's "last" "for now".
