Tzipi Livni was listed among Newsweek's "150 women who shake the
world." Livni, the only Israeli woman featured in the list was
described as "The first female opposition leader in Israel's history."
"Livni quickly rose through government ranks from her first
appointment in 2001 to being sworn in as the first female vice prime
minister five years later. Currently the head of Israel's largest
political party,Kadima -Livni is one of the most powerful women in the
country. Livni said in response that she was glad Israel was
represented in a positive connotation of powerful women, especially at
a time when Israel is often mentioned in connection to the
discrimination of women.
