Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt serve up fishy premiere

It could easily be considered for the award of most bizarre movie title of the year.

"Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" is based on the book of the same name and sees Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt in the leads.

The film's overall theme explores the possibility of turning impossible circumstances into a reality, and surprisingly is not just about fishing in the Middle East, says screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

SOUNDBITE: Simon Beaufoy, screenwriter, (English):

"It's really a metaphor for finding a place of peace and quiet and meditation and getting back to who you really are. It could've been any sport really, but salmon fishing, particularly, summed up the peace that this man was trying to create by this crazy project of putting a salmon run in the Middle East, in the desert."

SOUNDBITE: Emily Blunt, actress, saying (English):

"I think I was struck by it, I was sort of intrigued. This title is so intriguing. When I started to read it, I just thought it was the most beautiful story, and it seemed to be carving out a new space in storytelling. You do look for that, it is quite rare that you find a script that's not generic."

For Blunt it's looking to be a busy year, with a total of five films out in 2012.

The actress was joined on the premiere red carpet in LA by co-star Ewan McGregor, who plays an expert hired to help launch a project to bring salmon fly fishing to Yemen.

SOUNDBITE: Ewan McGregor, actor (English):

"He's a really unhappy man at the beginning of the film. He's in an unhappy marriage, he's kind of myopic about his science, he's not interested in anything. He doesn't have any dreams and he doesn't believe that dreams can be achieved. And through working with the rich sheik who wants to introduce the sport, salmon fishing, to the desert of the Yemen, the layers of that repression start to peel away and he allows love into his life for the first time when he meets Harriet Chetwode-Talbot, played by Emily Blunt."

Not an every day love story for the big screen - "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" hits US theatres on March 9.
