PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN
FROM THE MORGAN HOTEL IN TEMPLE BAR
Podium is a Waterford-based rock band. The group formed in the summer of '09, when 'The Appeal' changed from having a male to a female vocalist. Having shared the stage with established groups such as The Coronas, Mark Hogan, Delorentos and Limehouse Lizzy, The Appeal were certainly a band with an increasing reputation. After 3 years of gigging across Ireland, the group parted ways with their vocalist due to an increase of uncertainty amngst the members.
After a lenghty break, the group decided to carry on with a new vocalist, and took their time finding the right replacement. After 6 months of various auditions, the group decided on having Cathy Forristal as their new vocalist. Hiring a female vocalist did mean that the group would have to change musically, so they decided to drop everything that belonged to The Appeal, incuding setlists and band name, and start again with a clean slate.
Upon starting again, the band's sound has evolved from a Classic Rock style to a more modern Radio/Rock sound. After a few "trial" shows at low key venues, the group unveiled it's new sound at Electric Avenue, Waterford's premier live venue, with a support slot for Delorentos in March of 2010. At this show, they also unveiled their new name; Podium.
Currently, the group are working hard on writing new material for a forthcoming E.P., aiming for a summer release. They will also have alot of other plans in the Pipeline for the summer of 2010, with radio interviews, recording, touring and even music video talks on the cards.
2010 looks to be a big year for Podium, so keep an ear out!!http://www.myspace.com/podiumireland
