At least three suicide bombers attacked a police station in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar on Friday (February 24), killing three policemen and wounding six others, police officials said.

According to police officials who had cordoned off the area, the gunmen - armed with assault rifles and bombs - stormed the police station in one of the city's densely-populated areas in the early hours of the morning.

Local residents said they heard blasts soon after the firing started, and there were reports that the attackers had blown themselves up.

The police station is one of the largest in the city, and serves as a barrack for hundreds of new recruits.
