Anastacia - Paid my dues

Anastacia Newkirk est née à New York, mais a vécu son enfance à Chicago. A l'âge de quatorze ans, elle retourne vivre à Manhattan, où elle suit des cours au Professional Children's School. Elle s'essaye à la poésie, Barbra Streisand et Elton John dans les oreilles. En sortant régulièrement au club 1018 de New York, elle découvre la house et le freestyle. Ces sorties nocturnes lui permettent de se faire remarquer par de nombreux producteurs. Elle danse dans de nombreux clips du groupe américain Salt N'Pepa. En 93, Anastacia déménage pour aller vivre à Los Angeles où elle rencontre O.G. Pearce avec qui elle réorchestre un de ses titres One More Chance. En 98, convaincue par son nouvel agent, elle participe à The Cut, (le Graine de star américain). Sans gagner le concours, Anastacia rencontre alors tous les patrons des grandes majors américaines, pour signer finalement en 99, avec Daylight Records d'Epic. Son premier album Not That Kind sort en 2000, dont certains titres ont été produits par Sam Watters de Color Me Badd et Louis Biancaniello puis, en 2001, paraît son second album, Freak Of Nature. Elle se retire ensuite quelques temps pour soigner un cancer. Anastacia signe son retour en 2004 avec un album éponyme.
