    Israeli director picks up award at Detroit filmfestival

    Israeli director Gilad Schenker won an award at the Detroit Windsor International Film Festivalon Monday for his short film Lavan. He picked up theaward for Best Short Film, a week after he received the Best Director Prize atat the Washington film festival. Lavan tells the story of Gioza, one of the female 'WhiteTorture' prison guards, who falls into an obsessive love with Nick, theprisoner under her supervision, without him knowing of her existence. Althoughinspired by the Iranian idea of the 'White Torture', the events and charactersdepicted in the film are purely fictitious. Mr. Shankarthanked those who helped him in making the film.
