Obama breaks into song at the Apollo

6 years ago57 views

STORY: U.S. President Barack Obama capped off an evening of back-to-back fundraising events in New York, with a stop at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he reiterated his pitch for re-election in 2012.
The star-studded event featured singers Al Green and India Arie, but it was the commander-in-chief's singing skills that drove the approximately 1400-strong audience wild.
Obama belted out a line from soul legend Al Green's hit song "Lets Stay Together", drawing cheers and applause from supporters.
Later, Obama touted his administration's record on an array of issues, including healthcare, job creation and the end of the Iraq war. He thanked campaign donors for their support, but warned them against complacency in this election year.
Obama's jam-packed itinerary in New York included a fundraiser at an exclusive Manhattan restaurant and a 35,800 U.S. dollars per ticket event at the home of film director Spike Lee earlier in the evening.
Obama's re-election campaign and its Democratic allies raised more than 68 million U.S. dollars in the last three months of 2011, dwarfing Republican rivals as the White House race approaches.
With most of that money said to be coming in small-dollar sums from thousands of Americans, the fundraising gives Obama, a Democrat, a nice cushion as he campaigns for re-election against Republicans sparring to see who will be their nominee in November's election.
His fundraising tour comes the same day his campaign released its first television ad of 2012.
