TSA theft arrests mar security agency

http://www.nma.tv/ The TSA is under fire again after two cases of theft by its staffers at New York airports made the headlines. The latest incident saw agents Davon Webb and Couman Perad from Kennedy Airport busted for stealing US$160,000 in cash from bags, including US$39,000 from one passenger. In another case, TSA supervisor Michael Arato at Newark Liberty Airport recently admitted theft. He also allowed a worker he supervised to steal $10,000 to $30,000 over a 13-month period. The pair targeted non-English speaking victims, particularly elderly Indian women as they were leaving the country. Since 2003, more than 1,500 items have been reported stolen, including an engagement ring stolen at LAX, a 12-year-old boy's birthday money, and many more. Arato faces 15 years in jail, but wouldn't it be more just if another more appropriate punishment could be arranged?
